In 1958 God gave the late Elder Eugene Howard Sr. a vision to start a new work. With the support of his beautiful, dedicated and devoted wife Zadie Howard, he began the Greater Bethlehem Healing Temple. The church was located 12815 Woodrow Wilson in Detroit. Under the advice of Bishop Samuel N. Hancock, Elder Howard later added the word “Faith” to the name making it Greater Bethlehem Faith Healing Temple, the only church in the city at that time by that name. This spoke of he strong Faith and the special anointing of healing God gave to Elder Howard. The church started strong with approximately 75 members, family and friends.
In 1984, the Woodrow Wilson building was destroyed in an unfortunate fire but that did not in any way destroy the Lords work. In 1985, the Greater Bethlehem Faith Healing Temple Family and now Bishop Eugene Howard relocated to 18229 W. McNichols. Many lives have been changed and families saved under his leadership and teaching of this anointed work. Bishop Howard was a faithful and dedicated pastor until his homegoing in 2001. Throughout the 47 years we’ve had many triumphs as well as trials and remain steadfast in the faith.
On June 3, 2007, Elder Joseph W. Simpson, Jr. a great man of God, anointed lead and gifted teacher of God’s word, was installed as pastor of Greater Bethlehem Faith Healing Temple. He later became Bishop Joseph W. Simpson, kept God’s work going. He was a dedicated teacher of God’s word and continued to pray for the sick and shut in, minister to God’s people until he retired in 2021. Many lives changed and was delivered during his leadership.
In July 2021 Elder Adrian C. Winston Sr. a profound preacher and dedicated man of God who served as the assistant pastor under Bishop Simpson was installed as the new and current pastor. His loyalty to the Kingdom of God is what is needed in todays world and we at Greater Bethlehem Faith Healing Temple have no doubt that God is going to guide him to continue God’s will in this season. And by the Grace of God we are still standing strong and claiming victory in the name of Jesus Christ.
